Infants

Osteopathy for babies & children is a gentle and non-invasive method that aids the body’s natural self healing.

The powerful pressure of the contractions and the stress of going through the birth canal, naturally causes some overlapping of the skull and compression on the body. Some compressions and strains may be relieved spontaneously after birth as the baby cries or suckles.  Often times this process is incomplete, especially if the birth has been difficult (ex. forceps/vacuum assisted delivery, long labour, caesarean birth) and require osteopathic treatment:

Colic or Excessive Crying
Reflux/spitting up
Suckling/Feeding Difficulties
Constipation
Sleep Disturbances
•Plagiocephaly, Flat Head, Odd Shaped Head
•Failure to thrive
•Restless Babies
Down Syndrome
•Autism

Children and Adolescents

The longer a problem is left, the more complex the body’s adaptation becomes and consequently, the more difficult it is to return the body to a state of wellbeing. Several of the conditions we develop in childhood and then adulthood can be traced back to birth trauma that has been left uncorrected.

In children, the following symptoms can be treated:

Sinus Infections
•Ear Infections
•Colds and recurrent respiratory infections
•Asthma
•Headaches
•Posture Problems
Scoliosis
•Aches and pains associated with growth
•Sports Injuries
•Sprains/Strains
•Strabismus
•Learning Disabilities/learning disorders
•Austism
•Behavior Problems
•ADD/ADHD
Orthodontia

Reactions to treatment

Your baby or child may be very relaxed afterwards and want to nap. Others have a burst of energy, usually followed by a good night sleep. Occasionally your child may seem unsettled and this is merely because treatment may take a few hours or days to complete.

The number of treatments required varies according according to the severity of the actual problem and the age of the child.
