Scoliosis

Scoliotic curves are most often seen in girls between the ages of 10 and 14. More severe curves require orthopedic treatment, bracing,  or occasionally surgery. Discomfort is rare during adolescence but pain and disability are likely to be experienced later in life if left untreated. scoliosis, the vertebrae are bent and rotated to the side.   Ribs become compressed on one side and stretched on the other as muscle groups are shortened or stretched--this causes the rib hump that is seen when bending forward.

Osteopathic treatment can be of help both in the more mild curves and in those requiring orthopedic intervention. Treatment improves both spinal and rib mobility and can help prevent the scoliosis from worsening and often times lessen the severity of  the curve.
